While this anniversary celebration is about the technologies of the future, we want to acknowledge the greatest achievements of the last 125 years. What do you think was the greatest world changing technology achievements introduced in the last 125 years?

There are many that could be mentioned, but I would choose the transistor. Both for the idea itself, and for the miriad of new inventions that it spun, ranging from radio to power electronics, from computers and the internet to automation and control.

Too many achievements had taken a place in the last 125 years, but using silicon as a semiconductor material is the greatest technology achievement. This fired up the electronics revolution, such as transistors, solar cells, integrated circuits, microprocessors, semiconductor detectors and other semiconductor devices.

for me i think it is the invention of Ipod and blackberry wireless and music system.

We want to organise a global student volunteer event to bring student volunteers from across the globe togetehr to celebrate the 125th anniversary of IEEE. Hopefully this will materialise, I request all student volunteers/well wishers to work for this event.

Also I request all the student branches to celebrate the 125th Anniversary so that we can spread awareness in the local community.

IEEE India Section started in Bombay in 1967 and IEEE Bombay Section was formed together with Delhi and Bangalore in 1976. We are 33 years old.
Bombay plans to organise at least two major technical events during the year as well as a celebration in May to honour members of long standing. Our Subsections, Pune and Madhya Pradesh will also have their own events.

We wish IEEE a happy 150th anniv to come, and come soon.

Best wishes to one and all.

Technology is forever changing the world – what do you see as a technology currently in research or development that will change the future?

Maybe new materials that could be more manipulative, to optimize the electronics. Nano-tech and bio-tech. Transportation and new energy sources.

Computers changed the world, I think something that would really change the world would be something related to Project Oxygen, the one being done by MIT.

Though I also feel something that would merge green engineering and welfare and wealth… plus human entertainment, all packed into one.

Social networks and virtual worlds are changing the way people interact on the Internet. Maybe it is not a sudden change, however, today many people interact and use these virtual resources.

“We are virtual beings”…
We can make friends via the web, shop, watch our favorite tv-shows, complete surveys, study… we do a lot of things, but… recently, we started to do all this in a more “real” way.

For example, in Second Life, people socialize, share their works in galleries, attend to events and buy new clothes and accessories in order of look “better”. Also, virtual people works to raise money (or points) and upgrade level … Without doubt this lifestyle or virtual-lifestyle is changing the way that persons use the web.

I recommend to read the article of “virtual worlds” in the IEEE Computer Magazine September issue.

I think, nano technology is going to do much in this regard……

plus if we have asynchronous processors, we are really going to rock the world….
In hand technology, do whatever u want to do, limits will become unlimited…..
then, i think, discoveries wont change much, but enginuity……

convergence between voice and data network in simple way all network such as ( PSTN , mobile ) be based on ip, which combine data, voice and other applications onto a single platform which create the concept of
seamless connectivity .
